About TSS: St. Joseph Technical Secondary School offers both the secondary curriculum and technical skills to young people. After completing the four-year secondary education, they will have acquired relevant technical skills to help them get jobs and be self-reliant.

The school's principal objective is to provide quality and affordable education to the neediest, empower the youth with appropriate vocational skills at reasonable costs, provide psychosocial and spiritual care to the students, and achieve students' integral formation as caring citizens to the world.

Courses Offered: Students from the Secondary School section are required to study at least one of the technical courses alongside secondary education and, on completion, to obtain a secondary school certificate accredited by National Industrial Training Association (NITA).

The school also offers vocational skills courses such as solar installation, electrical installation, Fashion Design, Hair Dressing and Beauty as well as computer courses. The different courses last not more than one year. After one year, the graduates are ready to return to the community and be of service to the rest of Kangemi and beyond while earning a decent, dignified humane existence.

The People we Serve:

  • The youth
  • Adolescent girls and young women (AGYWs)
  • Adolescent boys and young men (ABYMs)
  • Single and young mothers

Academics: The school has managed to blend Technical skills with the Kenyan Secondary curriculum successfully. This blending has been possible, mostly due to the dedication of students and teachers. After two years, the students can sit for the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) grade III examinations. However, students undertaking only the technical examinations can sit for the examinations after one year. The school had the first Kenya Certificate Secondary Examinations in 2018.

Life Skills Program: Students are imparted with life skills training on issues such as drugs and substance abuse, HIV and AIDS, communication skills, self-esteem, social boundaries, and so forth. The students are encouraged to participate in these sessions at the end of every term. Similarly, from time-to-time, students are engaged in corporate social responsibility in the community by cleaning the environment in Kangemi, visiting children's homes, and offering moral support to the children. These activities have boosted the morale and self-esteem of the students.

Our Resources:

Library: The school has a library facility that benefits our students and students from other schools and the local community. Due to the increasing demand for the facility's use, the school's renovation enabled the constraction of an extra floor as an E-learning center.

Laboratory: The school has a laboratory to enhance sound performance in the sciences and innovation of ideas. There is a need for continuous stocking of the laboratory with lab chemicals, glassware, and apparatus. The modern computer lab is accessible to all students, including those of the neighboring schools.
